MOWS
GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The Manually Operated Weapon Station (MOWS) may be fitted to all transport or
combat vehicles. It is fitted over a hatch in the vehicle's roof.
Fixed Part
- The circular base supports 3 tapered bearing rollers
- Attachment holes on the base allow having it fitted to the vehicle
Revolving part
- A gun ring rail on the 3 rollers, to which the doors hinge is fixed
- A door, forming a shield, supported by 2 arms, with a central hole for the weapon and the cradle trunnions
- An ammunition box support incorporated into the door
- An articulated flap on the door to blank off the central hole
- The door and flap locking mechanism, the latter also enabling elevation lock of the cradle
- The azimuth locking device
Tilting Part
- A weapon cradle
- A cartridge case deflector
- A balance spring (weapon and cradle)
UTILIZATION
- After opening and locking the door and flap, the cradle may tilt freely through the hole
- The weapon is installed rapidly by pinning or locking lever
- The operator, standing, holds the weapon by the grip and uses it for elevation laying. The azimuth movements are by means of the operator's back support
- A second locking position, with the door half open, enables the weapon to be used for anti-aircraft fire
